Sustainability Director to join the Group Board

Singleton Birch is the UK’s leading independent lime supplier and has diversified in recent years into energy and waste management.

This is a key leadership role within the business and the successful candidate will lead the business and the board on sustainability and energy strategy development and implementation to ensure that the company achieves its target of becoming carbon negative and becoming world class in environmental and health and safety performance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Formulation and implementation of  sustainability strategy, including renewable energy production and procurement, to accelerate the company’s carbon reduction programme
  • Manage project team to deliver the capital investments required to deliver the  carbon reduction programme
  • Manage existing energy portfolio including Anaerobic Digestion Plants of Birch Energy and procure energy requirements of the business.
  • Responsible for the compliance team, covering Health and Safety, Environment and Quality, including the laboratory, ensuring that a philosophy of continuous improvement delivers excellence in these areas in line with the Company Vision
  • Ensure the business complies with all regulatory issues in relation to health and safety and the environment and lead discussions with the relevant regulators.
  • Represent the Company on relevant UK and European technical panels and trade bodies.
  • Prepared to travel  throughout the UK, and occasionally abroad

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Degree qualification in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
  • A track record of formulating corporate sustainability strategies and achieving buy-in of senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience in senior operations management in energy intensive industry with a track record of delivering environmental improvements and dealing with regulatory authorities.
  • Experience of working in the lime industry at a senior level would be an advantage,
  • Excellent leadership and man-management skills

Group SHEQ Manager

Singleton Birch is the UK’s leading independent lime supplier and has diversified in recent years into energy and waste management.

This is a senior management position reporting to the Sustainability Director and partnering other senior stakeholders across the business you will be responsible for leading a small team of committed and dedicated SHEQ professionals. This will be a key role in helping the business achieve its aims of becoming world class in environmental and health and safety performance.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Coaching and guiding managers and colleagues across the business in relation to SHEQ related matters
  • Developing a fit for purpose SHEQ strategy encompassing all divisions within the Group to helping us achieve our vision of becoming world class in environmental and health and safety performance.
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are up to date; simple to understand; easy to access and followed throughout the group
  • Managing accident investigations
  • Ensuring we have safe systems of working including risk assessments and method statements
  • Overarching responsibility for quality including management of the laboratories.
  • Undertaking site and branch visits and audits
  • Chair of group SHEQ committee
  • Maintaining and developing safety management systems
  • Overseeing mandatory compliance training
  • Overseeing subcontractor compliance
  • Liaison with regulatory authorities, such as the HSE and the EA.

Qualifications & Experience:

With a real passion for health and safety we would expect your background to include

  • Relevant qualification – NEBOSH Diploma as a minimum (or equivalent)
  • 5 years in a SHEQ environment ideally with some of it spent in heavy industry
  • A minimum of two years in a senior SHEQ position including leading a team
  • Developing a SHEQ strategy linked to the business strategy
  • Previous involvement in both the quality and environmental aspects
  • Writing and implementing policies; processes; SOP; ways of working etc
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and accident investigations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A strong focus on continuous improvement

Sales Executive – Birch Lime & Waste

Singleton Birch are a long-established UK company supplying quarried products locally and lime products nationwide. Our products are used in many applications including agriculture, water treatment, environmental protection, construction and steel.

The Role:

Working within the sales team the successful candidate will be responsible for sales of calcium based products for a wide variety of applications. The role will involve managing customer accounts, following up customer leads, developing new opportunities, running sales campaigns and maximising sales opportunities. You will be responsible for maintaining customer records within a customer relationship management system.

What we require:

The successful candidate is likely to have a degree or be of graduate calibre. Commitment, drive, motivation and interpersonal skills are more important than experience as training will be provided. Based at our Melton Ross site this role will require some travel within the UK
The candidate must have a full UK driving licence is required.

Electrical Shift Engineer

Singleton Birch Limited are the largest independent Lime Operators in the UK. Running 4 Maerz Kilns in a 24/7 operation producing Calcium Oxide to both internal and external processes and customers. The Role:
As a Shift Engineer you will play a pivotal role within the Operational site team, reporting into the Electrical Maintenance Engineer you will work as part of a team of multi-skilled engineers in the delivery of the Engineering strategy to support the ongoing progression of the site performance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Routine PPM’s & Safety Inspections
• Attend, Diagnose and Repair electrical issues across multiple plants & equipment
• Install & fault find on AC Drives
• PLC Fault Finding
• Instrumentation Installs & Calibrations
• Drive & maintain quality engineering solutions & standards
• Ensure all plant equipment is maintained to standards set by the Electrical Maintenance Engineer
Qualifications & Experience:
• Time served Electrician with NVQ level 3 as a minimum
• 18th Edition & IOSH Managing Safely is desirable.
Knowledge of
• Allen Bradley Drives & PLC’s,
• Siemen’s Instrumentation
• Control Circuits & Pilz Safety Relay’s

Assistant Engineer

The Role:

As Assistant Engineer you will play a pivotal role within the Operational site team, reporting into the Maintenance Manager you will assist him in leading the mechanical maintenance within Singleton Birch. Taking the lead on larger maintenance tasks to free up the Plant Engineer to carry out their duties. You will assist the Quarry Plant Engineer in leading the maintenance on a Night in the Quarry every 3rd week. Working a rotating shift pattern with 2 others, you will work 2 weeks of days and 1 week of nights.

Stepping up into the Plant Engineer’s role to cover holidays, training, and sickness.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Routine maintenance
  • Repairs as necessary to ensure that equipment is fit for purpose.
  • Inspections and safety checks
  • Execute the maintenance plan across all areas of site
  • Ensure all plant equipment is maintained and performs to levels that do not impact customer service or compromise EH&S

Qualifications & Experience:

The ideal candidate will have a HNC or relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering. This role would suit someone who is capable of motivating others to deliver results. Must be able to work collaboratively at all levels within the company, also with suppliers and contractors.

IOSH Managing Safely is desirable, as well as general IT skills.

Assistant Engineer

An opportunity has arisen for a Shift Maintenance Leader to join our Engineering Team. Reporting to the Maintenance Engineer you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance activities within an industrial environment, joining an established maintenance team you will be able to provide supervisory support to ensure maintenance activities are as efficient and effective as possible. We require NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications and some supervisory experience but commitment and drive are more important as any necessary training will be provided for the right candidate, we need a well organised, confident and committed team player. This is a fixed shift pattern role involving weekends.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

Primary

  • NVQ Level 3 Engineering discipline/ HNC or relevant experience.
  • Supervisory Experience

Secondary

  • Telehandler Licence
  • Working @ Height Trained
  • Slinging & Signalling
  • Confined Space Trained
